First Lady Dr. Patricia S. Willis recently returned to the Duval County Public School System, the 20th largest school district in the country, to serve as the Interim Superintendent. She was appointed to this role by the Duval County School Board effective May 22,2017 and was the first African American female to serve in this role until the permanent Superintendent was appointed. Prior to her retirement in June of 2012, Dr. Willis also served as Deputy Superintendent of Duval County Public Schools from December 2007, until her retirement. Dr. Willis has thirty five (35) years of distinguished service with the Duval County Public School as a dedicated, progressive, and innovative educator, instructional leader, and professional development facilitator. She holds a Bachelors in English Literature and Secondary Education from the University of North Florida, a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Nova University, and a Doctor of Education Degree in Educational and Organizational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also the owner and president of PSW Consulting, LLC, which is an educational organization specializing in educational and organizational leadership, academic improvement, and implementation of various strategies to address the complex academic needs of children, especially in our most challenged schools.
Dr. Willis has an immense portfolio of educational experiences. Prior to her role of Deputy Superintendent, she served in the positions of Teacher, Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, Principal, and General Director for Professional Development. Dr.Willis is a leader among educators and has received several recognition's acknowledging her accomplishments. They include the 2013 MWG Alumni Humanitarian Award, 2012 NAACP Education Award, 2011 Harvard University " Women In Education Leadership " Inaugural Class Membership, 2011 United Way Board Of Trustees Appointment, 2010 PTA Lifetime Membership Award, 2010 Leadership Jacksonville Class Membership, 2009 Women Of Color Education Award, and Finalist for the 2009 Prestigious Eve Education Award Of North East Florida.
Dr. Willis dedicated her adult life to public education, but she has first and foremost dedicates her life to Christ. She is a Woman of God who provides her continuous leadership to her church and her community. First Lady Dr. Willis serves in several church ministries and is an advocate for the homeless and less fortunate. She is active in the East Florida and Bethany Baptist Association, our local association, and participates in the Florida Baptist Missionary and Education State Convention, our state convention. First Lady Dr. Patricia S. Willis is the proud mother of two educators, Minister Rashard A. Willis, and Ms. Danielle P. Willis and is the wife of 41 years to the Rev. Anthony L. Willis Sr., Pastor of the Greater Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Willis is a woman of great faith who stands and serves beside her husband in ministry. First Lady Dr. Willis has dedicated and committed her life to quality education for all children, and a spiritual commitment to live a life that pleases Christ. Dr. Willis motto is " I've Been Running For Jesus A Long Time, And I'm Not Tired Yet ".
